The Magic of Retouching with Dennis Dunbar

Saturday July 24th
The Magic of Retouching with Dennis Dunbar

Join us on Saturday, July 24th, as our own Dennis Dunbar will share some of his tips and tricks for doing high end retouching. In this seminar Dennis will be discussing compositing techniques. He’ll begin by covering Workflow & File structure, then he’ll move on to Masking and Color Correction as well as blending disparate images to make one seamless work of art.

This session promises to be an informative and interesting exploration designed to help propel you to the “Next Level” in your own digital experience. So whether you’re a beginner, or an experienced photoshopper come join us at Strauss Studio for the latest in our series of Digital Seminars.

Dennis Dunbar is a Digital Artist with extensive experience in digital issues. He began compositing images in the darkroom under the tutelage of William Warren, a noted Stock Shooter. After seeing the advantages of working digitally Dennis jumped in with both feet, setting up his own studio in 1991 and soon was working extensively creating finished artwork for movie posters as well as commercial ads.

Dennis’ drive to stay on top of the various issues involved in the digital imaging world led him to also focus on Color Management and to offer consulting services to his clients in this area as well.

In the summer of 2002 Dennis was named to the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Advertising Photographers of America where he serves as head of the Digital Committee. His work with the APA led him to concentrate on working with groups that are focused in the area of creating standards for the Digital Imaging.

He is a founding member of the UPDIG (Universal Photographic Digital Imaging Guidelines) and a member of the DISC Committee as well. More information on these groups are available at: www.updig.org and www.disc-info.org .

APA Personal Projects: Jeff Sheng

Jeff Sheng APA Event In Denver and LA

The APA-LA series, Personal Projects, highlights some of the  work done by photographers when they are not doing commissioned, commercial work. APA's hope is to put a spotlight on those individuals creating personal projects, and to encourage and to inspire others to do the same.

APA's next Personal Project event features the creative and emotional work of photographer Jeff Sheng.

Jeff's personal project, and now book, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is a collection of portraits Jeff created of some of the closeted service members serving our country.  While Jeff creatively obscures the identity of his military personnel subjects, Jeff has essentially put a face on the many individuals living double lives in order to serve their country, our country.  The bravery of these men and woman on the battlefield, during deployment and in front of Jeff's lens, speaks volumes of their character to take a stand against the US Military's Don't Ask Don't Tell policy.

Jeff will discuss his project from idea to books and exhibit.   Jeff will share images from his ongoing project and share stories from his experiences this project has awarded him. Jeff will end his presentation with a Q&A, and will have books available for signing.

Jeff's personal project has recently received the attention of the NY Times and ABC World News. Jeff's solo exhibition of the series will open September 18th, at Kaycee Olsen Gallery in Culver City.

Check the APA-LA blog for information.
Jeff received his BA from Harvard University in Visual and Environmental Studies (filmmaking and photography), and received his MFA in Studio Art/Photography from the University of California, Irvine, and he now teaches photography at the University of California, Santa Barbara"
