Creating Effective Behind The Scenes Videos

To embrace what is likely the future of print and online photography, image creators of all types should familiarize themselves with the components of motion production and find the level of integration that makes the most sense for their shoots. Whether this takes the form of learning to shoot video in addition to stills or working in conjunction with a motion producer, the synergy that is possible when combining these two disciplines can at once heighten the creative atmosphere and add tremendous commercial value to the production.

Photographers can benefit from not only showcasing their work, but their process as well. A good BTS piece at once embraces the subject and shooter while striving to cast both in the best light possible.  What started years ago as an experiment as magazines looked to expand their online presence, has grown into a regular component of most photo shoots and, in many cases, a platform of its own on both editorial and advertising productions. The potential for advertising in particular has just started to get into the mainstream— and the opportunities to expand creatively and commercially are tremendous.

This seminar will focus on the basic components of a motion production and how it can seamlessly integrate with a still photo shoot.

Erik Almas

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

-Arthur C. Clarke

Restless, driven, always pushing himself toward new means of technical and aesthetic expression, Erik has deployed his unique vision in award-winning work for clients including Microsoft, Toyota, Nike, Puma, Pfizer, Harley-Davidson and Hilton Hotels.

His images for these and other clients often contextualize people or products within hyper realistic panoramas that frequently are capped by clouds that Turner or van Gogh might have envied.

So breathtaking are Almas' meticulously planned, produced and post produced images that fellow photographers and armchair Photoshop quarterbacks often are left to scratch their heads and wonder, "How'd he do that?!" As it turns out, this is a question Almas is more than happy to answer.

Developing a truly distinctive photographic style is the key to a successful
career. Discover how to translate your artistic passion into a recognizable
and original style that will continually attract top clients.

An Evening with Jeff Divine

APA LA invites you to join us for an amazing evening with legendary surf photographer Jeff Divine.  Jeff will retrace his steps from his beginnings: taking pictures of his fellow surfers in the 1960's to the present; where he reigns as surf photography's crown prince.

Growing up in La Jolla, Jeff Divine began taking pictures of fellow surfers in his hometown during the 60's and got to know the original alternative sport before the mainstream media blew it into the commercial kingdom it has now come to be.

His photo focus took him to a staff position in 1970 with Surfer Magazine where he would begin the first of some 35 annual trips to the North Shore of Oahu as well as yearly photo surf safaris to surfing locations around the word. In 1981 Divine would become the photo editor at Surfer, a position he has held for 17years.

Today Divine is the Photo Editor at the Surfer's Journel and continues to contribute to Surfer while living in San Clemente, CA
